My Two Year Old....The Vegetarian Environmentalist

John II has decided to give up meat. This child will NOT eat it. No matter how I disguise it..he finds it and very carefully picks around it. The only "meat" he will eat is chicken nuggets. So, he gets all natural organic peanut butter every day!! :)
He also has developed a LOVE for recycling. No, I am not kidding. We recycle and we have a special spot where we put all the recycling, and then Josiah gathers it and takes it out once or twice a day. Well, John II has decided that this should be HIS job. If he sees even one item there, he wants to take it out.....this gets real old after about the 15th time in one day. He doesn't want to see it collect there, he wants to take everything out...ONE item at a time :). A couple times lately he has been up in the morning with Josiah watching cartoons and I have gone back to sleep for 15-20 minutes and then I feel something ever so gently tapping me. I open my eyes to find my two year old standing there with his arms FULL of recycling ready to take it out. Too funny. :)
Watch Out Tiger Woods. :) This is John II at Josiah's school carnival.
Josiah's best friend Cameron, John II, and Josiah at the carnival. Yes, John picked ALL the meat off that pizza :).Here is a cute story about Josiah. The other day I was at his baseball game and overheard some mom's talking. One of the mom's was saying that she volunteer's
in the kids class a lot. She said they are doing some math right now that is a little hard, even for her. So then I heard her say, "When I am helping the kids and don't know the answers, I always just go to Josiah because he is already pages ahead and has all the problems done, so I just get the answers from him." I was very proud, but also had to laugh because if you know me.....I don't do math. When I was in highschool they created a special class for people like me called "Senior Math" just so we could graduate!! So, he didn't get his smarts from me! :)
Let's see what else has been going on lately....Oh!...I went on a ridealong with John and had a blast! He talks about it on his blog...it's pretty funny, I'll just let you read his version of it :).
Lastly, I'll close with a "moment" I had this past week. I was getting a pedicure (thank you John) and the lady was asking me what I do and if I have kids, those type of questions. She is Vietnamese, a mother of two, and often works 6 LONG days a week at the nail salon. When I told her I also have two children and I stay home with them, she must have told me several times how "lucky" I am and how nice that was..she said "what a nice, easy life, you are very lucky". She said it several times and was so sincere about it. It really made me stop and think about how right she is. I could tell she would give anything to be able to be home with her children, and yet there she was giving me a pedicure and probably not making a whole lot of money. At that moment I wanted to trade her places and let her sit in the nice massage chair and give her a pedicure (although I would do a terrible job, I am horrible at painting nails!). But, it just really made me stop and think about how blessed I am.
It is so easy to focus on what we don't have in life and sometimes human nature tends to zero in on the negative rather then the positive. But, she helped me remember how blessed I am and put things in perspective that day. I may not have the big fancy house, or brand new car, or brand new clothes all the time but I am free to be home with my precious children and enjoy all the little moments of their lives. I may feel like I am running around all the time between school, errands, baseball, church, grocery shopping, doctor and dentist appointments etc... but I have a great vehicle that runs, that I can afford to put gas in, and I have great medical coverage that pays for those doctor and dentist appointments. I may often be tired, but I can afford to treat myself to a latte everyday and a pedicure every now and then. Life is good, and I am very very blessed. Thank you God...and John too :).

Very nice post, Jess! And cute pics! I know what you mean...We have been going through a lot of trials lately, but, in the midst of it all, I can't help but feel greatful for the things we DO have! And thankful because things could be so much worse! Praise God in all things!
You are so blessed!! And I am so blessed to have you as my friend!!
Love the pics Jess! What a cute post. I think it is great that your little guy loves to recycle lol. I have a question though...have you checked the date on your camera recently? the pics are all showing the year 2002 lol!!
Oh and as a mom myself I know how exciting it is to hear that everyone is going to your child for the math help lol. It looks like you are doing a great job with both your boys!!
love,
Jenny
oh I forgot to also say...you are sooo right to remember what we do have. I struggle with that one too. :) I am constantly reminding myself that just because I do not have a fully loaded suburban does not mean I don't have great kids and a great husband and family! very good point!
I wonder were he gets the health food thing?? Next he'll only be eating south beach..
your right we are lucky..not a easy job sometimes I wish I could have a regular job, but worth its weight in Gold!

Yes, you are blessed beyond words and your children are also blessed to have a mother that loves them so much.
What great stories about your little guys. John is totally cute, i think its hilarious about the recycling. ha!
That was a cute post. I miss you! We have to get together some time soon! Things have been so crazy with selling our house and trying to get everything packed to move! But I would love to get together and chat for a while. I will be posting pictures of our new house and updates about how the house selling is going soon. We have to wait a couple more days to make sure everything is finalized and then I will share! I don't want to jump the gun just in case something falls threw.
Thanks guys for all your very sweet comments! I feel even more blessed now! :) No, Melissa..I won't start him on the South Beach Diet until age 3 at least!!! :) JK!
Is it true vegetarian's often go to tanning booths. Can you ask him 4 me?
Yes Tony, he is an avid tanner despite our many talks about the dangers...it deeply saddens me. But, I had no idea that was common among other vegetarians.....why is that??
