Summer...wrapping it up.
Summer is almost over...crazy. This summer just flew by! I must admit I am personally ready for a change in weather (sorry!). This summer has just been so hot! It was great, but I'm ready for a change...my sweaters, jeans and stiletto boots are calling my name. :) I love the long days of summer and the warms nights, but I am ready for the cool crisp breeze of fall, the rich colors and smells, and I am ready to actually sleep with all my blankets again! I miss those! :) I also miss my husband..we are big time cuddlers. But this summer was so hot we practically drew a line on the mattress..stay on your side..it's hot! :)
Another reason I miss John is he has been working a lot this summer. Overtime is about to slow way down so he took advantage of it while he could and boy have we needed it!! Summer is expensive! Wow. There are SO many birthdays in our family and friends, then there are weddings, kids going to camp, vacations, husband going to camp, bridal showers, baby showers, back to school shopping (Yikes) and on and on and on. Plus our Explorer broke down last month..stop laughing! Especially you Justin! :) We were so thankful to be able to afford to fix it..it was NOT cheap. I am just truly thankful to God, He really provided for us this summer.
Let's see..what else. Oh! My church recently sent me and my worship pastor to an AWESOME leadership conference where Darlene Zschech and her pastor, Brian Houston, were two of the main speakers. It's not an understatement to say it was life changing for me. That would be a WHOLE other post!
John has also been attending a leadership conference all this week for his work, it's required for all sergeants. He is really enjoying it and getting a lot out of it. He comes home and shares a lot with me, and it's great stuff. It's interesting how much of the stuff taught there lines up with the word of God. I believe that is simply because.... what's in the Bible works! Imagine that. :) So, even the world uses a lot of biblical principle without always acknowledging it, simply because they are principles that truly work and bring forth great results. One thing I really appreciate about John is that he recognizes that he is also the leader of our home. When he gets this kind of training, he not only applies it to his work but he applies it at home as well. This week, I have seen a shift in him...he is starting to sound a little like Dr. Phil with me :)..Ha! Just kidding babe. But, I love it. I love that he so loves learning, knowledge and being the best he can be in all areas of his life. He did actually say to me this week when I was talking about something...."So, what I hear you saying is..." We both just cracked up! That is a wonderful technique...but those of you who have been around our church for awhile know what a "coined phrase" that is, so we have a hard time using it without feeling a bit obvious and cheesy. :) It was cute though.
That's just a quick update of what we have been up to! :)
