What?! Me? An "older mom"??!

They say you are as young as you feel...right? Not sure who "they" are, but I like them. :)

So, this morning I had kind of a "freak out" moment.

I was laying in bed and thinking about being pregnant and wondering if this would be the last time. Then it hit me that I will be 33 years old when this baby is born.
You think that I would have realized this before, but I really hadn't thought about it. In my own mind, I am a young mom!

I mean, I first became a mom at 21!!!

But, it is sinking in that I'm really not so much this time around! I am nearing the end of my childbearing years. How did that happen!!?
Now, I know these days people (especially in hollywood) have babies in their 40's. Which is great, the medical industry has had so many great advancements that can reduce complications and such.

But, at my first Dr's appointment the other day I was filling out all the paperwork and they ask if you are 35 or older, and if so there are additonal questions/concerns etc. Realizing I will only be 2 years away from that when I deliver was just WEIRD.

Partly because...this is my first baby in my 30's. Which just dawned on me as I was at the doctors.
I am no spring chicken anymore...which is just WEIRD..cause I still feel like one on the inside! :)

My mom was 35 when she had me, and bless her heart...I thought she was REALLY OLD when I was a teenager and stuff. Sorry Mom, love you. She was older then most all the other moms, and already had grandchildren! This morning I realized that could be ME! AGGHHH! I have become my mother!!! JK!! Again, love you mom! :)

So, then I started doing the numbers game while laying in bed this morning and pondering my old age :).

I will still be in my 30's when Josiah graduates from highschool!
See why I have always thought of myself as a "young mom"?

I will be 45 when Johnny graduates....not too bad.

And then I will be...drum roll.. 51 years old when this new baby graduates!!! Whoa. And I very well may be a Grandma! Double whoa. My husband will be 56!!!!

What totally different experinces those each will be. Such different stages in my life. But, I think I'm OK with it :). Each will be special and different, and precious.
And I am glad I will get to savor being a mom for a long time and REALLY drag it out :). haha

So, will this be our last baby??? :) Only God knows!

Jess, I have totally wrestled with those EXACT thoughts! And yes, at the doc's office, too! It does always help me to think of the 40 year old women in Hollywood, for some reason. Ha!

haha...Evey, your too cute..please don't it take that way (and no one else either!!)!! :)
It's just when you first become a mom at 21 and then your have your
3rd at 33...it's a bit of a culture shock! :)
Everything's different. Like your body for starters.. haha! :)
Also I remember taking Josiah to preschool and I was the youngest mom there BY FAR....and now it was even weird taking Johnny to preschool this year cause I am like right in the middle...there are moms quite a bit younger then me and some older...then when I take this baby to preschool.....I will be looking at those 20 somethings like "Wow, they are so young to be moms and look so great!" haha :)
It's just a culture shock when I was so used to being such a young mom and getting comments like "Are you babysitting?" No one ever asks that anymore. haha :)

Jess I feel your pain. :) I too was the youngest mom when I took Krista to preschool. All the other moms seemed so much "older" at a ripe old 30 something lol.
Does it help at all for me to tell you that you really don't look in your 30's at all? You look like your in your twentys still. I can say taht honestly because i have known you since jr. high lol.

don't get me wrong 30's is NOT old by far. In fact they are saying that 40 is the new 30 and 30 is the new 20 so I guess we are good! lol Besides I bet you have a lot more confidence now then you did the first time you were pg. :)

Age is just a number! You look great, you feel great and you are not old by any means.I think every year gets better, I love my 30's! I'll probably be 60 when my kids graduate, so at least you'll be younger than me!!!!!

I'm totally with you on this. I thought the same stuff filling out the paperwork at 31 with Vail. And I've run the numbers too....arghh! But, I believe when we're 51, we still won't feel old.
