Our trip to the Mayan Ruins.....

This was a longtime dream of my husbands, to see the pyramids and the rest of the Mayan ruins. We did it! It is about 2 hours outside of Cancun. There is so much history there, you try to imagine the Mayan people living there 1000's of years ago as you are walking around..it's pretty crazy.
Can you see the detail carved into every stone? Amazing.

Then we went and visited the villages where the Mayan people live today. That was amazing. These are a couple Mayan homes. It was a totally different world, yet just hours outside of someplace like Cancun. I wish we could have stayed a night here in the Mayan village and really experienced the people and their culture. My husband wasn't so keen on that idea. :)

Some Mayan dancers that entertained us while we ate.

And No Kenz...we couldn't walk up. Two people fell and died within like a two week period so they are no longer letting people up. John was SO bummed about that.

I had heard that the year I went there was supposed to be the last year they let people on it. I have some incredible pics from climbing it and then from the top! It was a harder climb than it looks! very steep, especially being afraid of heights, but mostly physically hard. I'm glad you got to see that place. It's SO beautiful there! I can't wait to go back someday!
